  • Grow mint in an area that receives morning sunlight and some afternoon shade to save it from the scorching sun, especially if you live in a warm area.
  • Plant mint in the container to avoid it spreading beyond control and overtaking your garden.
  • Always harvest mint before it flowers.
  • Thin out the herb regularly to keep it bushy and under control.
  • When flowering buds appear, pinch them off, so the plant diverts its energy into growing healthy leaves.

Don’ts of Growing Mint

  • Avoid growing mint in an open bed where it could take over the garden.
  • Prevent planting mint in overtly moist conditions.
  • Avoid both overwatering and underwatering.
  • Do not plant mint in a completely shady spot that gets no sunlight at all.
  • Do not fertilize the plant heavily as it will lose its flavor. Just mulch the top layer of the pot with compost or manure.

  • Use a well-draining, moist, fertile soil having a pH of 6.0-7.0.

  • I have mint in a big flower box and its very thin i keep it well trimmed every year and it seems so lifeless not at all all bushy. its not in direct sunlight.

  • I’ve been growing mint in my windowsill in a medium sized pot and it is so pretty no flowers just aromatic leaves that drape over the sides of the pot like a spider plant. My secret ingredient to bring it back to life after its started to die n make it boom is…believe it or not Vitamin D milk then rinse top soil with water. I do this once every other week
