Follow the steps below to learn how to make a self-watering planter using a soda bottle. You can hang it or keep it somewhere in a less windy spot so that it won’t topple.

Required Materials

  • Soda Bottle
  • Scissor
  • Screw Driver
  • Woolen Thread
  • Spray Paint
  • Soil
  • Mint Plant

1. Cut the Bottle

Cut the bottle as shown in the picture.

2. Make Hole

Puncture a hole on its cap.

3. Spraying

Use the spray paint to color the bottom side of your bottle.

4. Let it Dry

Wait for some time so that it dries out well.

5. Pass Woolen Threads

Pass woolen threads across the hole you made on the bottle cap. This will allow the constant supply of moisture to the planter.

6. Knotting Both Sides

Tie knots on both the sides of the threads.

7. Add the Soil

Fix the cap and add a quality potting soil to the top part of the soda bottle.

8. Plant a Moisture Loving Plant

As this self-watering will provide evenly moist soil, it’s a good idea to grow a moisture loving plant in it.

In the End…

This recycled soda bottle planter looks good as well. We selected mint, you can grow any other herb, e.g., parsley.
