Member of the Marantaceae family, the Never Never plant features long, lanced-shaped foliage with green, pale yellow, and cream colors variegated in an intricated fishbone pattern. Not just the deeply serrated variegation, but the plant is also popular for its foliage that folds inwards in the night, resembling praying hands.

Requirements for Growing Never Never Plant
Sunlight
Place the plant in a spot where it can enjoy 5-6 hours of bright indirect sunlight. The more light it will get, the better the colors are going to be!
Remember not to expose it to the direct afternoon sun that will otherwise scorch the leaves leading to faded foliage with brown spots. Whereas too much shade will turn the leaves leggy and stunt their growth.
Water
Keep the medium evenly moist but not boggy. Examine the top layer of the soil and water whenever it seems dry. Cut down on watering in the winter months to prevent root rot.
Soil
A moist but well-draining potting mix will help the plant to thrive well. Combine sphagnum moss or coco coir and perlite with a fistful of aged manure for the perfect blend. Make sure that the medium retains moisture but is not heavy or contaminated.

The Never Never Plant appreciates a temperature range of 60-85 F or 16-29 C for healthy growth. Do not expose it to temperatures below 50 F or 10 C, as that will stunt its growth. While extremely high temperatures will fade its variegation, affecting the growth. Keep the plant away from cold or heat drafts.

Fertilizer
Feed the plant with a diluted liquid fertilizer, after diluting it to 1/2 of its strength, once every 4-6 weeks. Ensure not to overfertilize to prevent salt build-up that will lead to root rot. Also, avoid feeding it in winter.
Pests & Diseases
The Never Never plant is resistant to most pests. However, keep an eye on occasional mealybugs, thrips, and spider mites infestation. Swipe them with a cotton pad dabbed in organic neem oil or rubbing alcohol to remove the pesky pests.
