Hoya Joy Plant Information

A hybrid of Hoya sp. Laos and Hoya vitellina, this plant is noted for its large waxy foliage with random yellow spots. It blooms pale pink-green flowers during spring and summer.

Native to Southeast Asia, the epiphyte has a trailing growth habit, making it quite a unique specimen for indoors. You can also keep it short by growing the plant in a small pot.

Hoya Joy Growing & Care Information

  • Avoid keeping the plant in direct sunlight as it may burn its leaves. Pick a location that gets filtered and bright light all day.
  • Prepare a well-draining medium combining 2 parts of garden soil, 1 part perlite, and 1 part coconut coir or birch bark.
  • Let the topsoil dry a little between the watering sessions. Do not let the growing medium out completely.
  • Hoyas prefer a temperature range of 60F to 85F or 16C to 29C.
  • Keep a humidifier handy to cover up for the dry days. You may also use a pebble tray.
  • Feed it monthly with a dose of diluted liquid fertilizer, diluted to 1/4 of its strength. Avoid fertilizing in winters.
  • Hoyas are prone to sap-sucking pests—use an insecticidal soap solution. Avoid overwatering to save it from potential fungal diseases.
